Kickin' Some Metal Chik Tires
Woot! Welcome to Metal Chik and my first blog post here. Like you, I'm checking things out and getting situated in some new blog digs. When I first learned about Metal Chik and got an early look at one of its jewelry-making videos, I was hooked right away.
If you are already a cruiser of the blogosphere or perhaps a blogger yourself, then you might recognize me behind my bead board. My name is Tammy Powley and I'm a jewelry junkie from way back. After spending about a decade writing boring technical manuals for the defense industry, I managed to turn my writing skills toward my love of crafting — focusing mainly on jewelry making. While I have a few books out in the hard-copy world of publishing, much of my writing is digitally based at blogs like The Jewelry Weblog, Jewelry and Beading and my site at About.com called, what else, Jewelry Making.
Sometimes, people ask me, "How can you write so much about one topic?" But that's one of the great things about jewelry. It is a topic that includes tons of other subtopics. For jewelry lovers who are more interested in jewelry as a consumer, there's fashion, style and trends to examine. For those who want to try to make their own jewelry, there are a huge number of techniques and media to explore (metal, metal clay, polymer clay, fused glass, bead stringing, bead weaving, lamp-work, wire ... ). Get the picture?
At Metal Chik, I plan to cover pretty much all of the above and, like you, learn from the other great bloggers and vloggers on this site.
