  • Beads Change Lives

POSTED BY TAMMY POWLEY, OCTOBER 09 2007 08:00 AM | PERMALINK

Many of us already know that the pleasure we find beading and making jewelry brings us a lot of self-confidence, but it probably isn't something you really think about on a day to day basis until you hear a story like this from the blog, A Little Something, which documents the beading experience of a small group of female refugees now living in the US. This is an excerpt from an essay, entitled "Eight Dollars," which you'll find on the blog. It's written by Sharon McCreary, who works with this...

  • Resin Jewelry Comes Back

POSTED BY TAMMY POWLEY, SEPTEMBER 20 2007 09:00 AM | PERMALINK

Resin jewelry is making a come back. I suspect a lot of this is because of the mixed media craze right now. What better way to combine materials such as paper, fiber, and metal than to encase it all in resin? Organic materials like leaves and flower are also a good choice for your resin designs. You can make pins, pendants, earrings, and I'm sure much more once you get going.

  • How To Make A Roman Chain

POSTED BY VICTORIA TILLOTSON, SEPTEMBER 03 2007 12:00 PM | PERMALINK

I love to make chains! There is something soothing about the repetitious work. I guess it’s sort of like knitting, something that I can’t do at all! ☺ Learning how to make a chain is great because once you to it, you understand it and can decide when to buy them and when to take the time to make them yourself. There are some pre-made chains I would never bother to make because to get them that perfect is not a good use of anyone’s time. Leave it to the professionals! But you can’t get the look and feel of...
